Backpacking Tips and Trips

"Doctors are now medicating unhappiness," said Dworkin. "Too many people take drugs when they really need to be making changes in their lives."

Recent studies I have read indicate that anti-depressants are the most prescribed drug in America.  While this may treat the symptoms, this does not address the root cause.

My fiance is a minister and tries to treat the spiritual side of people's lives.  I am a backpacker and feel it too, treats the spiritual side of people's lives.

It is important to examine your life and find balance.  Balance your desire to enjoy life with your need to achieve.

Hiking and backpacking the West has been my passion for many decades. I fell in love with backpacking as a Boy Scout almost 40 years ago.  Although the first major backpack adventure was a tearful event.  My canvas external framed pack did not fit well nor did the heavy cotton lined rectangular sleeping bag compress.  The tears of being last as I tried to pack my gear remind me to this day that there is a need to help those who want to graduate from car camping and experience the joy found in lightweight, comfortable backpacking.

My goal is to assemble and create a one stop web site for all your hiking and backpacking information. Every page will have photos and information.  And a page with some incredible links to everything you wanted or needed to know about backpacking.  The encyclopedia of links.  Shifting thru all the information out there to give you the best.

Some of the links are obscure but so cool.  The Photo page will have new photos added weekly.

There is so much information out there, why not have one site that combines the best links. Backpacking, Hiking, Trip Planning Links. Recipe ideas, Cooking links and more. And to spice up the information, we should add beautiful wildlife and scenery photos.
Then add some funny stories.

If you have suggestions, any favorite, obscure but awesome websites, I would love to hear from you at: backpackingwithpete@gmail.com .

Prepare for your time in the outdoors and you will enjoy your time much more. Backpacking requires a healthy respect for the wilderness but the rewards are enormous. Some may say you need all the fancy gear, but I say you can enjoy the outdoors safely and comfortably on the cheap. Visit a thrift store and pick up a variety of fleece, polyester, nylon pants, shirts, sweats. Know what you are looking for and get lightweight but warm clothing. Material that will retain the warmth even in the rain, or at least dry out quickly. We will explore that on the gear page.

Within this web site are many links and checklists that can help you prepare. Backpacking is fun and can bring a refreshing spiritual renewal.
